Is it really that safe for an 18 year old girl to stay in Baltimore, MD alone?

I'm referring to the area between the Inner Harbor and Convention Center.Is it really that safe for an 18 year old girl to stay in Baltimore, MD alone?
It's never really safe for an 18yo girl to be in the city alone, but the Convention Center is probably one of the safest spots in town. I go to a yearly music convention there, where 7-12th grade boys and girls let loose in the CC and told to stay nearby. Nothing has ever happened, even to the people that have a tendency to wander. It is a pretty good part of town. Still, travel with a buddy, and maybe a can of pepper spray. You never know where and when nutjobs will show up.



If you are looking for a place to stay, I would highly recommend the Sheraton a few blocks away from the CC.
Actually, that area is a real mixed bag. It is well lit and well populated, but it is also an urban area. I would walk to the Inner Harbor at 9-10pm alone, but I wouldn't walk at 2-3am alone. Pretty much just like anywhere else. It also depends on whether you are staying at a private home or in a hotel. There is the main street between the convention and the Harbor where the beggars can be a little aggressive, though. It is a very fun city, usually more fun with a friend, though.Is it really that safe for an 18 year old girl to stay in Baltimore, MD alone?

As a visitor, you will be safe if you are prudent and know where you are going and how you are getting there.
