Can you list any good books for a inter city illiterate adult with a 5th grade education?

I'm a tutor for a inter city Hispanic male, who has only a 5th grade eduction. I would like a list of books that he could read that might be of intrest to him. Any suggestions? Can you list any good books for a inter city illiterate adult with a 5th grade education?Try the following, although some may be a challenge, he should probably enjoy them:

Moby Dick

Charlotte's Web

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Watership Down

The Wind in the Willows

Bridge to Teribitha

Seven Little Australians

Anything by Robin Klein

The Railway Children

Harry Potter books

Hans Christian Anderson tales are great (but he may feel a bit insulted by the 'fairy tale' element)

Also, magazines are good - Time, National Geographic, The Bulletin, etc

Although some of these may come from a childs / teens perspective due to the level of education - a lot of these are universal favourites and classics that appeal to all ages.

Hope this helps

The guy above mentioned Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer - great choices! Can you list any good books for a inter city illiterate adult with a 5th grade education?Charlotte's Web, Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, HolesCan you list any good books for a inter city illiterate adult with a 5th grade education? No, because that adult is illiterate and can't read. Therefor, all suggestions would be pointless. Can you list any good books for a inter city illiterate adult with a 5th grade education?
What about Aesop's Fables? I always liked those books.

He will need to be re-acquainted with reading before he gets into the big stuff. You may want to ask him what his interests are FIRSt before we can suggest books that interest him. It may not matter his race, but his interests.
