Can I create and inter-company message board or forum?

I am looking to create a message board for our projects where all the required parties are notified and updated whenever someone posts their deliverables. This will allow people to subscribe to threads and be updated in the progress of the projects.



As this is usually highly sensitive and proprietary material, we would like to keep the message board off the internet if possible.



Any help is greatly appreciated.Can I create and inter-company message board or forum?phpbb.com to make the forum.



XAMPP to make the webserver. You can eather have it on the internet, and set it up where the person has to enter username and password to view the post.



OR



Just have it on the local network. NOT accessable from the internet. If you are away from the office you can get to it by VPN connection
