They drop a quarter in the cup of a black homeless and feel good about themselves, instead of offering them a job painting or lawn maintenance. I can tell you that the racism in the south is 10 times what it is up north, and i'm not just talking about white racism.
I've never called anyone the "N" word in my life..., but I was called a "cracker", "honky"...etc. In my first weeks at my new school in FL.
I had to prove to the kids on my bus that I had three half black cousins just to keep from getting my azz kicked on a daily basis. As a little kid it was scary as hell...and very confusing because I had never experienced it. I was thinking..."why are they mad at me ?"
Up north is very different.... nobody really thinks in terms of "us" and "them"....I had more black friends than white friends when I lived in Illinois, and I was never made to feel out of place.
It's not just about forcing people to integrated, it's about them getting along and tolerating each other, when they do integrate.
I'm sorry but the south still has a lot of hate...

I attended college in the South for 4 years in Atlanta from 1968-1972. I was shocked at the intensity of racial prejudice displayed by many southerners. They were far behind the Midwest and other parts of the country I have visited. Perhaps time has changed things. I was down south in '60, and I just moved here again, and the only thing that's changed is the road signs. These throwbacks are just as dumb, as racist as ever.
